Coronavirus Update

20th March 2020

During this current season we just want to re-assure everybody that we plan to stay open if we can.

Peterborough Foodbank provides an essential emergency service for people unable to afford food. We do not have the capacity to provide food to people who can afford to buy the essentials but are self-isolating and have issues accessing food as a result. People self-isolating who can afford to buy food but cannot leave their homes should contact their local council for advice.

Advice for individuals needing foodbank support: we are currently operating a food only service at our centres which means that we will greet you at the door, and ask you to wait outside whilst we pick your emergency food parcel. Please bear with us at this time, this is to help protect you and our volunteers from spreading the virus. Please maintain the social distance of 2 metres.

If you need a voucher, please contact one of our partner agencies who can issue our vouchers as we only work on a referral basis. If you are a tenant of a social landlord please contact your housing officer. If you have children you could try the charities Barnados and Spurgeons who run Paston and Orton Children’s Centres. Also try contacting  your local school as staff may still be working either from home/school.

Also you could contact Citizens Advice – they now only operate a telephone advice line but can issue vouchers.

One foodbank centre: We have amalgamated our foodbank teams into one Centre. We are now operating only out of the Foodbank Centre at Dogsthorpe Methodist Church, Birtchtree Avenue, Dogsthorpe from 11am-1pm on Mon through to Sat.

Advice for Agencies: please continue to request vouchers. If you are stopping face to face appointments and cannot print a voucher, please let us know and we can let you do e-referrals.

Donations: we plan to keep our warehouse open Mon, Tue and Fri 10am-1pm for incoming donations at Dodson House, Fengate PE1 5Xg.  We are providing a trolley in the yard for you to unload your donations into so that you do not need to enter our premises. We will be sanitising the trolleys regularly. We are still collecting from the local supermarkets that have our instore collection boxes and will be increasing our visits there.

Please do keep giving as we are expecting a huge demand.

If you are unable to go shopping for us then we are very happy to receive monetary donations. We have a donate button on our give help webpage. All monies do come to Peterborough Foodbank and will be spent buying essential food items.

Volunteering: if you are interested in volunteering during this season please do get in contact, but please bear with us in replying as we are very busy.

Thank you to everyone who is supporting us at this time. We advise you to stay safe, and we pray for peace and good health for you during this season.
